You can find and request data for all continents and various spatial or temporal sampling resolutions.

Using its proprietary science, EOMAP is now publishing continuously harmonized products. We publish products few hours after record time in client requested regions or provide information back in time as far as 1984. If you are interested in purchasing or subscribing to any of these products, please visit our online store or contact the dedicated service team via info@eomap.com.

To download an information booklet on these products, click
Information Booklet Water Quality Monitoring
To access validation examples, click
Validation Examples Water Quality

What this eoApp shows

Turbidity: a measure of the degree to which light is being backscattered by particles in the water. Tracking changes in turbidity is useful when for example monitoring sediment plumes from dredging and dumping activities. The measurement unit is Earth Observation Turbidity Unit (ETU) and directly related to backscattering of particles, very similar in magnitude to Nephelometric and Formazine Turbidity Units (NTU and FTU). It is linearly related to Total Suspended Matter (TSM) at low to moderate turbidity values.

Chlorophyll-a: Chlorophyll-a is an essential pigment included in phytoplankton cells and therefore a measure of phytoplankton. The displayed Chlorophyll-a CHL is calculated from total scattering and total organic absorption of water constituents. Unit is [µg/l]

HAB Indicator: Harmful Algae Blooms (HAB) indicator shows possible areas affected by harmful algae blooms formed by cyanobacteria containing phycocyanin.

Please read the information booklet and validation report to understand the validity range of the products. Products are generated independent on any form of ground truth data, and inter-comparable over the various resolutions provided. The Chlorophyll and HAB indicator may have site-specific limitations e.g. for extremely humid, calcareous, or ferruginous waters, and can be improved with local adaptations. General restrictions are caused by clouds, optical shallow waters, or undetected artefacts from e.g. cloud shadows.

How to use this eoApp

On the right hand side of the top bar, you will find the basic map tools for interacting with the map, such as panning, zooming, and placing a virtual measuring station.

In the blue panel on the right hand side, you can essentially do following things:

Select which of the available regions you wish to explore.

Select which of the three parameters you wish to visualise: turbidity, chlorophyll-a or hab indicator.

Select for which date or time period you wish to see your selected parameter. How can I view water quality maps for my location?
A: Please send us an email indicating the area you are interested in. If we get enough requests for the same area, we could add it to this free visualiser. Otherwise, we are happy to give you a no obligations quote for how we could meet your specific needs.

Q: How can I learn more about these types of satellite-derived map and data water quality products?
A: You can start by downloading our related information booklet. Of course, this does not cover everything, but you will find links to additional reading in the booklets:
Information Booklet Water Quality Monitoring
Information Booklet Water Quality Monitoring Florida
Information Booklet Water Quality Monitoring Australia
Validation Examples Water Quality
Q: We are an organisation that would like to subscribe to your data feed for selected water quality products over our own areas of interest.

Pixels for a minimum of 10% of the waterbody area must be available.
for 500m resolution: pixelwise mean value of all pixels of one day.
Moving Mean (M'Mean): pixelwise mean of all pixels of the previous 7 days.

Seasonal: average pixelwise parameter values for a fixed time period, e.g. May-September 2014, using all available data

See the parameter value and geographic coordinates for your virtual measuring station.

Generate a time series plot of the selected parameter value at your virtual measuring station.
Please wait few seconds after placing the pin for the virtual measuring station, as the time series data are generated on the fly from the available data layers.

FAQ

Q: I am interested in a location outside the polygon areas that you feature here.

Can you provide us with our own eoApp for our project?
A: Absolutely. We would set you up with your own secure eoApp, covering your area(s) of interest and we can also modify some of the functionality to suit your needs.

Q: Can I get higher resolution data or aggregated information as well?
A: Yes, we also offer in some instances even a 2m product or up to daily sampling.

On the right hand side of the top bar, you will find the basic map tools for interacting with the map, such as panning, zooming, and placing a virtual measuring station.
In the blue panel on the right hand side, you can essentially do following things:
Q: I am interested in a location outside the polygon areas that you feature here.
How can I view water quality maps for my location?
A: Please send us an email indicating the area you are interested in. If we get enough requests for the same area,
we could add it to this free visualiser. Otherwise, we are happy to give you a no obligations quote for how we could
meet your specific needs.
Q: How can I learn more about these types of satellite-derived map and data water quality products?
A: You can start by downloading our related information booklet. Of course, this does not cover everything,
but you will find links to additional reading in the booklets:

Q: We are an organisation that would like to subscribe to your data feed for selected water quality products over
our own areas of interest. Can you provide us with our own eoApp for our project?
A: Absolutely. We would set you up with your own secure eoApp, covering your area(s) of interest and we can
also modify some of the functionality to suit your needs.
Q: Can I get higher resolution data or aggregated information as well?
A: Yes, we also offer in some instances even a 2m product or up to daily sampling. Just send us an email with your requested
area or visit our online store at www.eomap.com/store
EOMAP is the leading commercial provider in satellite-derived information on aquatic systems, acting worldwide as an operational mapping service provider for the offshore industry and environmental agencies. Pioneering in the field of commercial, satellite-derived high resolution water quality and bathymetry, EOMAP solutions rely on standardized physical models which are independent of scale, sensor type, and geographic location. Key services include satellite derived bathymetry surveys, seafloor mapping and operational water quality monitoring. EOMAP value adding services can furthermore be applied at regional through to intercontinental scales, providing continuous and long term environmental information through integrating multiple satellite resources.
Earth observation data are in general recorded under changing environmental conditions. EOMAP value adding software corrects for most relevant environmental conditions. However, with respect to the physical nature of the remote sensing method the achievable product quality can differ due to varying observation angles, varying atmospheric(-), surface(-) and in-water conditions or changing sensor raw data quality with each scene. Therefore, EOMAP cannot take any responsibility caused by the usage and interpretation of the remote sensing products. Of course, EOMAP will undertake all possible efforts to assure a constant product quality.
